Reproductive Health and Safety Education (RHASE)
Prior to teaching the fifth grade RHASE curriculum, RHASE online training is required for all fifth grade classroom teachers. The curriculum meets the Healthy Youth Act (House Bill 88) and five objectives within the Interpersonal Communication and Relationship strand of the North Carolina Essential Standards.
Click here to access the guardian RHASE opt out form for CMS elementary, middle, and high school students. Forms are in English and Spanish and must be sent out two weeks prior to instruction. These forms are passive permission, meaning if the form is not returned to the teacher, the student is automatically allowed to receive RHASE instruction. The only way a student can opt-out of RHASE is having a guardian complete a RHASE opt-out form, checking the box, "I do not give permission for my son/daughter to participate in the Reproductive Health and Safety Education unit."
