Students are required to successfully complete CPR instruction to meet Healthful Living Essential Standards as a requirement for high school graduation
Did you know?
Sudden cardia arrest is the leading cause of death in adults?
CPR doubles a person's chance of survival from sudden cardiac arrest?
About 60% of the heart attacks resulting in cardia arrest occur in the presence of a witness who might be able to save the victim?
When is this Taught?
CPR is an 8th grade NC essential standard. Therefore, eighth grade teachers are required to conduct the CPR skills checklist with their students.
To reduce the number of high school students who need to complete the CPR requirement, students will have the opportunity to conduct the CPR skills checklist t during the state required high school health and PE course for graduation.
How is this Taught?
Give each student a copy of the CPR graduation Checklist (See form below)
Give each student a copy of the AED handout (See form below)
Have students watch the Save-A-Life Simulator and talk or show the steps using an AED
Instructor will go through each step on the CPR checklist with students. Students can check off the steps as they complete them.
Teacher will circulate throughout the room monitoring and providing feedback to students while they perform the hands-only compressions.
Once all students have 100% completed the instruction, teacher will provide completed documentation to PowerSchool data manager to record on student's transcript.
